Raag Basant is 25th Raag to appear in the raag wise collection of Shabads in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The compositions in this raga appear on a total of 29 pages from page numbers 1168 to 1197. Raag Basant is an old raag and has an important place in Indian Classical Music. There are many forms of Raag Basant. Basant Hindol is a beautiful form of Basant. Here we are dealing with two forms of Basant Hindol: Bilawal Kalyan & Porvi Marwah.

Vadi: Madhayam Shudh

Bilawal Kalyan:
Swars used in this raag are: Both madhayams, rest all shudh. Rishab is absent. In avroh, Pancham is absent.
Jatti: Sharav Aurav; Singing time: Morning or anytime in Basant season.

Aroh: ਸ਼ ਮ, ਮ ਗ ਮੱ ਧ ਨ ਸਂ ‘S m, m G M D N S’
Avroh: ਸਂ ਰੁ ਨ ਧੁ ਪ ਮੱ ਗ ਮੱ ਗ ਮੱ ਗ ਰੁ ਸ਼  S’ r’ N d P M G M G M G r ‘S
Vadi: Sharaj Tar  
Samvadi: Pancham

Porvi Marwah:

In this form, both madhayams, both dhaivats and rishab komal. In arch, rishab and panocha are absent.

    sat siri akal ma’am just wanted to know the usage of p in rag basant hindol kalyan ang in rag basant p is omitted so in basant handle how should the p be used and can m tivre be used in aroh
