O my mind, how can you forget Lord’s Name? When the body perishes, you shall have to deal with the messenger of Death. This world is just a mountain of smoke. What makes you think that it is real?  Wealth, spouse, property and household, none of them shall go along with you; you must know that this is true! Only devotion to the Lord shall go with you. Says Nanak, meditate on the Lord with single minded love and devotion.

ਓਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ, ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹੇਗੁਰੂ ਨੂ ਕਿਦਾਂ ਭੁਲ ਸਕਦਾਂ ਹੈਂ ? ਇਸ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਨਾਲ ਤੇ ਨਿਪਟਣਾ ਹੀ ਪਵੇਗਾ। ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਇਕ ਧੁੰਏ ਦੇ ਪਹਾਢ਼ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਹੈ. ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਨੂ ਸਚ  ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਨ ਲਿਤਾ ਹੈ? ਧਨ, ਜਾਇਦਾਤ, ਜੀਵਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਤੇ ਘਰ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਗ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣਾ, ਇਸ ਸਚਾਈ ਨੂ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰਾਂ ਸਮਝ ਲੈ. ਕੇਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਗ ਜਾਏ ਗੀ. ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਕ ਚਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੋ।

ओ मेरे मन परमात्मा को कैसे भूल सक्ते हो ? जब इस शरीर के अंत का समय आयेगा, मौत के दूत से तो निपटना ही पड़े गा. यह संसार एक धुंए के पहाड़ सामान ही तो है.  तूं ने इसे साच क्यों मान लिया है ? धन, सम्पत्ति, जीवनसाथी एवं घर द्वार, यह सभ तेरे साथ नहीं जाने वाले, इस तथ को अछी तरह समझ ले. केवल प्रभु परमात्मा की भागती ही तेरे साथ जाऐ गी. नानक कहते हैं, इक चित हो कर प्रभु की प्रेम भागती मे मस्त हो जाओ.
