Raag Taan Basant

Raag Basant is 25th Raag to appear in the raag wise collection of Shabads in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The compositions in this raga appear on a total of 29 pages from page numbers 1168 to 1197. Raag Basant is an old raag and has an important place in Indian Classical Music. There are many forms of Raag Basant. One such rare form is Taan Basant.

In Taan Basant, Gandhar and Nishad are komal and rest are shudh. In aroh, rishab and dhaivat are not used.

There are many similarities between Raag Taan Basant and Raag Bhimpalasi.

Differences between Raag Taan Basant and Bhimpalasi:
In Taan Basant, vadi is komal gandhar and samvadi is komal nishad where as that in Bhimpalasi vadi is madhaym and samvadi sharaj. 
In Taan Basant there is repeated use of: ‘n S g m P g m P g m P.
In Bhimpalasi there is frequent use of ‘n S m m, P g m g R S, n S m m m P g m.
