Raag Gauri Maajh

Raag Gauri Maajh

Raag Gauri  is the third raag in the raag wise collection of Shabads in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Gauri has the largest number of compositions which covers about 14 per cent of the total number of pages of the Scripture. The compositions in this raag appear on a total of 196 pages from page numbers 151 to 347.

Gauri Maajh is one of the 11 mishrit forms of Gauri in SGGS ji.

This raag is a combination of Raag Gauri and Raag Maajh. There is no mention of this raag in ancient books of Indian Classical Music and thus is considered specific to SGGS ji.

In SGGS ji, Gurbani is composed in this raag by only Guru Ram Das ji.

Swars used in this raag are: Both rishab, both gandhar, both madhayam, both dhaivat and both nishad.

In this raag all the 12 swars are used.

In Aroh rishab komal, gandhar shudh madayam tibra, dhavat komal and shudh nishad is used.  In Avroh, nishad komal, shudh dhaivat, gandhar komal, shudh rishab and madhayam is used.
