Shabad Interpretation in English:

O Lord Waheguru, I want to keep chanting your name, always. O my master, I am incapable of doing anything by myself. My fate hinges on your mercy. What can a mere mortal do? What is in the hands of this poor creature? O my perfect master, we happen to do whatever you make us do. O Great Giver of all, take pity on me that I may enshrine my love only for one supreme being. Nanak offers this prayer to the Lord, that he may chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord Waheguru.
Shabad Interpretation in Punjabi:

ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਇਛਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਅਪਨੇ ਮੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਹਰ ਵਕਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾਂ ਰਹਾਂ. ਮੇਰੇ ਸਵਾਮੀ, ਮੇਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੂੰ ਜਿਵੇ ਰਖੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹਾਂ. ਮਨੁਖ ਦੇ ਹਥ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨਹੀ, ਇਸ ਬੇਚਾਰੇ ਹਥ ਕੁਜ ਨਹੀ. ਮੇਰੇ ਮਲਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਤੂ ਜਿਦਾਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਸੀ ਉਵੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ. ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਰਬ ਦੇ ਦਾਤੇ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੋ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਿਵ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਗੀ ਰਹੇ. ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਗੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਓਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਰਹੇ.

हे परमात्मा, मेरी इच्छा है कि अपने मुख से हर समय तेरे नाम का उचारण करता रहूँ.  हे मेरे स्वामी मेरे कीए कुछ नहीं होता, जैसे तू चाहे मैं उसी हाल मे खुश हूँ. यह मानुष क्या कर सकता है, इस के हाथ में कुछ नहीं है. मेरे मालिक प्रभु, जैसे तुम चाहते हो हम तो उसी प्रकार जीवन बतीत करते हैं. मेरे प्रभु, समस्त के दाते, मेरे ऊपर किरपा करो कि मेरा चित ऐक परमात्मा मे लगा रहे. नानक प्रभु के समुख बेनती करता है कि मुझ पर अपने नाम जाप की किरपा करो.

Shabad Interpretation in English:

There is no peace and contentment without devotion to Lord Waheguru. One attains the priceless jewel of this human life, by meditating on Him in the company of holy men, even for an instant. Many have renounced and left their children, wealth, spouses, worldly joy and pleasures. All the worldly comforts and pleasures of power – leaving these behind, the fool must depart naked. The body, scented with musk and sandalwood – that body shall come to roll in the dust ultimately. Infatuated with emotional attachment, they think that God is far away. Says Nanak, he is Ever-present !
Shabad Interpretation in Punjabi:

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ. ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਮਨੁਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਬਾਜੀ ਜਿਤ. ਇਹ ਮਨੁਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਰਤਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ. ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਧੰਨ, ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਲਾਡ ਪਿਆਰ ਆਦ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਮੌਜ ਮੇਲੇ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਤੇ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ. ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਵਧਿਆ ਘੋੜੇ ਹਾਥੀ, ਯਾਨੀ ਅਵਲ ਦਰਜੇ ਦੇ ਘੁਮਣ ਫਿਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਧਨ, ਅਤੇ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੌਜਾਂ, ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਛ, ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਨਂਗਾ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੂੰ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ. ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਤਰ, ਚੰਦਨ ਆਦੀਕ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾਂਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ. ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੇ ਆਖ਼ੀਰ ਤੇ ਮਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਲ ਜਾਂਣਾ ਹੈ. ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੂਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ. ਪਰ, ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ – ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ.
Shabad Interpretation in Hindi:

हे भाई, परमात्मा की भगती के बिना इस संसार में सुख नहीं मिल सकता.  इसी लिए साध जनों की सांगत मे हर पल पल परमात्मा के नाम का स्मरण कर और इस मानुष जीवन की परम अवस्था की जीत हासिल कर. यह मनुश जीवन एक ऐसा अनमोल रतन है जिस का मुल्य लगाना असंभव है. हे भाई, पुत्र, धन और सभी पदार्थ, इस्त्री के लाड पिआर आदि, असंख लोग एन्हे और सभी मौज मस्तिओं को छोढ़ कर इस संसार से चले गये और चले जाएगे.  हे भाई, उतम किसम के हाथी घोड़े यानी बडिया किसम के यता यात के साधन, संसारी राज भाग की मौज और सभी ऐश आराम के साधनों  को छोड़ कर मूरख मनुष इस संसार से नगन ही चला जाता है. हे भाई, मनुष अपने शरीर को सुंदर सवारने के लिए कई किसम के अतर और चन्दन का परयोग करता है और फूला फिरता है पर इस सत्य से विस्मरण रहता है कि इस शारीर ने आखीर अमय मिटी में ही मिल जाना है. हे भाई, संसारी माया मे व्यथ, मनुष इस भ्रम में मगन रहता है कि परमात्मा का निवास कही दूर है. पर नानक यह स्मरण कराना चाहता है कि – नहीं, परमात्मा तो हर जीव के अंग संग मौजूद है.

Shabad Interpretation in English:

Meeting Him, the mind is filled with bliss. He is called the True Guru. Uneasiness of the mind vanishes and  the supreme status with the Lord is obtained. How can I meet my Beloved True Guru? Each and every moment, I humbly bow to Him. How will I meet my Perfect Guru? Waheguru by His Grace, has led me to meet my Perfect True Guru. The desire of His humble servant has been fulfilled. I have received the dust of the Feet of the True Guru. Those who imbibe devotional worship to Waheguru, meet the true Guru. They never suffer any loss; they continually earn blessings of Waheguru. One whose heart blossoms forth, is not in love with duality. O Nanak, meeting the Guru, one is saved, singing the Glorious Praises of Waheguru.

जिस के मिलन से मन मे आनंद उत्पन हो, मन की दुभिदा समाप्त हो जाए और परमात्मा के मिलाप की उतम अवस्था का अनुभव हो उसी को सच्चा गुरु कहा जा सकता है. हे भाई, जरा बताओ तो मुझे, ऐसा सच्चा  गुरु मुझे  किस उपाव से मिल सकता हे ? मैं उस मानुष  को जो मुझे यह बता दे, हर पल नमन करता हूँ. परमात्मा की किरपा से जिस मानुष को पूरण गुरु की प्राप्ती हो जाती हे, वोह गुरु के चरण सपरश से ही हर इच्छा  मुक्त हो जाता हे. हे भाई, जो व्यक्ती हरी भगती में लीन रहते हैं उन्ही को पूरण गुरु की प्राप्ती होती है और उनहे कोइ कमी महसूस नहीं होती और हर समय परमात्मा की किरपा द्रिष्टी के पात्र होते हैं. हे नानक, जिस गुरु का मन आत्मक प्रशंता से भरपूर हो जाता है उस के अन्दर परमात्मा के मोह के बिना और कुछ नहीं होता. ऐसे गुरु से मिल कर मनुष सभी विकारों से मुक्त हो जाता हे और परमात्मा के गुण गायन में वलीन हो जाता हे.

Shabad Interpretation in English:

Sing the Songs of Praise of my Fearless Lord Waheguru. I surrender to that Song of Praise which brings eternal peace. In that house where the Praises of the Creator are chanted and contemplated, in that house, sing Songs of Praise; meditate and remember the Creator Lord. Day after day, He cares for His beings; the Great Giver watches over all. Your Gifts cannot be evaluated; how can anyone compare to the great giver? The day of the eternal wedding is pre-ordained. Come, gather together and pour the oil over the threshold. My friends, give me your blessings, that I may merge with my Lord and Master. Unto each and every home, into each and every heart, this summons is sent out; the call comes each and every day. Remember in meditation the One who summons us; O Nanak, that day is drawing near !

Shabad Interpretation in Hindi:

जिस गृह में इस श्रिष्टी के सिरजनहार का सिमरन होता है और उस का गुणगान होता है, हे भाई, उस जगह तूं परमात्मा की उस्तुती कर और उस की आराधना कर. तूं मेरे उस निडर सुआमी के जस के गीत का गायन कर. मैं उस खुशी के गीत गायन पर कुर्बान जाता हूँ जिस दवारा अनंत सुख की प्राप्ती होती है.  हर पल प्रभु जीव की देख रेख करता है और वोह देनेवाला अपनी नज़र हर किसी पर रखता है.  हे प्रभु, तेरे वरदानो का हम मुल्य नहीं समझ सकते और ना हीं हम तेरी बेअंत अवस्था का अंदाज़ा लगा सकते हैं. जिस तरह शादी का दिन नीयत होता है, हे सखी जनों, आओ मिल कर सुभ शगुन करें और मुझे आशीर्वाद दो कि मेरा अपने प्रभु प्रीतम से मिलाप हो सके.  हे साथी जन, नानक स्मरण कराना चाहता है, यह सन्देश हर घर हर रोज़ पहुँच रहा है कि हे भाई समए नज़दीक आ रहा है – जिस परमात्मा ने हमे इस संसार मेँ भेजा है उस की अराधना करो.

Shabad Interpretation in English:

I forever surrender to those who listen and hear, and who understand and believe in the Naam. For those, who are not blessed by Almighty with Naam, there is no other place of rest. O Lord, you make us understand, and you yourself show us the way, and unite us in your union. O Lord Almighty, I pray for your Naam; Your Naam would go with me till the end. Without the Naam, all are under the grip of fear of death. Our farming and trading should be with the support of Almighty’s Naam. Our sins and virtues all act as seeds for our future. Carnal desires and anger are the cause for wounds of the soul. The evil-minded ones forget the Naam, and then depart. True are the Teachings of the True Guru. The body and mind are cooled and soothed, by the touchstone of truth. This is the true mark of wisdom: that one remains detached, like the water-lily, or the lotus upon the water. Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, one becomes sweet, like the juice of the sugar cane. By the Hukam of the Lord’s Command, we live in the castle of the body with ten gates. The five passions dwell there, together with the Divine Light of the Infinite. The Lord Himself is the merchandise, and He Himself is the trader. O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, we are adorned and rejuvenated.

 Shabad Interpretation in Hindi:मैं उस मानुष पर बलिहार जाता हूँ जो परमात्मा का नाम सिमरन करता है और उस को समझने की कोशिश करता है. जिन पर परमात्मा की किरपा दरिषटी नहीं होती उन के लिये कोई आसरा नहीं रहता है. परमात्मा तूं आप ही हमें राह दिखता है और अपनी शरण में लेता है. हे परमात्मा मेरी प्रार्थना है कि मुझे तेरा नाम सिमरन मिले, तेरा नाम ही अंत तक मेरे साथ सहाई रह सकता है बाकी सभ तो नाशवंत हैं. हमारे जीवीका के साधन – खेती और वयापार, नाम सिमरन के आसरे ही होने चाहेए. हमारे आज के पाप और पुन्य भविष के लिये बीज का काम करते हैं. कामातुर इछाये और क्रोध आत्मा को चोट पहुंचाती है. जिन के मन मे खोट होते है वोह नाम सिमरन के बिना ही इस संसार से चले जाते हैं. सच्चे गुरु की सिख्षा भी सच्ची ही होती है और तन मन को शीतलता प्रदान करती है. जिस तरह कमल जल में रह कर भी खिल्ला रहता है, परमात्मा के नाम में लपत मानुष ईख समान मीठी अवस्था प्राप्त करता है. परमात्मा के हुकम द्वारा ही हम इस दस दवारी भौतिक शरीर मे निवास करते हैं. हमारी पांच वासनाये भी उस परमात्मा की जोत के साथ इस शरीर में निवास करती हैं. परमात्मा आप ही वाणियज वस्तु और आप ही व्यापारी है. हे नानक परमात्मा के नाम सिमरन से ही हमारे सभी कारज सवरते हैं.

Shabad Interpretation in English:

Blessed is that mind, and blessed are those eyes; blessed are those devotees who are in love with You. Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how anyone can find peace? With your tongue, chant the Praises of the Name of the Lord. Nanak is a sacrifice to those who meditate on the Lord Almighty Waheguru.

प्रभु, धन्य है वोह मस्तक जो तेरे दर पे नमन करता है. धन्य है वोह नेत्र जो तेरे दीदार मे मस्त रहती हैं. और धन्य हैं वोह भगत जन जिन का तेरे साथ प्रेम बना रहता है. हे भाई, परमात्मा के नाम सिमरन बिना सुख की प्राप्ती नहीं हो सकती. इसी लिए अपनी रसना से  प्रभु जस गाते रहो. नानक उन भाई जनो पर कुर्बान जाता है जो परमात्मा का सिमरन करते हैं.
