Shabad Interpretation in English:

Slipping away – your life is uselessly slipping away. Night and day, you listen to the Puraanas, but you do not understand them, you ignorant fool! Death has arrived; now where will you run? You believed that this body was permanent, but it shall turn to dust. Why don’t you chant the Name of the Lord, you shameless fool? Let devotional worship of the Lord enter into your heart, and abandon the intellectualism of your mind. O Servant Nanak, this is the way to live in the world.

हे मनुष, तेरा जीवन बिना किसी शुभ करम कीए समाप्त हो रहा है. हे अजान आदमी तूं तो दिन रात धरम ग्रंथो का भी पाठ करता है पर तेरी समझ मे कुछ नहीं आता. अंत का समय किसी वक्त आ जाना है तुम कहाँ भाग के जाओ गे ? तेरा यह शरीर हर समय रहने वाला नहीं है इस ने तो एक दिन खतम हो जाना है. है मूरख बेशरम तूं परमात्मा का नाम सिमरन क्यों नहीं करता ? अपने अहंग्कार को छोड़ और प्रभु भागती में लग. नानक यह कहना चाहता है – कि इस जग मे रहने का यह ही एक रास्ता है.

Shabad Interpretation in English:

Those who enter Your Sanctuary, Dear Lord, are saved by Your Protective Power. I cannot even conceive of any other as Great as You. There never was, and there never shall be. O Dear Lord Waheguru, I shall remain in Your Sanctuary forever. As it pleases You, You take care of me, O my Lord and Master; this is Your Glorious Greatness. O Dear Lord, You cherish and sustain those who seek Your Sanctuary. O Dear Lord, the fear of Death does not touch those whom You, in your  mercy, protect. True is Your Sanctuary, O Dear Lord; it never diminishes or goes away. Those who abandon the Lord, and become attached to the love of duality, shall continue to die and be reborn. Those who seek Your Sanctuary, Dear Lord, shall never suffer in pain or hunger for anything. O Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord forever, and merge in the True Word of the Shabad.

हे मेरे प्रभु, जो तेरी शरण में आते हैं उनको तेरी कृपा दृष्टि प्रदान होती है. मेरा तेरे बिना कोइ दूसरा सहारा नहीं है और ना ही कभी हो गा. प्रभु जी मै तो सदा तेरी शरण मे हूँ, यह तेरा बड़प्पन है तूँ जैसे चाहे मुझे रख. प्रभु जो तेरी शरण आते हैं तूँ उन की परवरिश करता है. जिन पर तेरी किरपा दृष्टी होती है उन को मौत का डर नहीं सताता. हे प्रभु तेरी शरण सत्य समान है जिस में कभी कमी नहीं आती. जो मानुष एक परमात्मा को छोड़ दवैत को धारण करते हैं वोह जनम मरण के चक्र मे फंसं जाते हैं. परमात्मा, जो तेरी शरण में है उस मानुष को न कोइ दुःख और न ही किसी वास्तु की भूख रह जाती है. नानक, तूँ सदा उस प्रभु की उस्तुती करता रह, इस तरह तू उस सचे परमात्मा मे वलीन हो जाए गा.

Shabad Interpretation in English:

This beggar begs and begs for Your Naam, Waheguru. You are the Support of all, the Master of all, the Giver of absolute peace. So many, so very many, beg for charity at Your Door; they receive only what You are pleased to give. Fruitful and Blessed is His Darshan, and more I am near Him, more I sing His Glorious Praises. O Nanak, one’s essence is blended into the Essence of the Lord; the diamond of the mind is pierced through by the Diamond of the Lord.

हे प्रभु, मैं भिखारी तुझ से तेरे नाम सिमरन की भीख मांगता हूँ. हे समस्त श्रिष्टी के नायक और सभी को सुख प्रदान करने वाले. कितने ही, बहुत सारे मांगने वाले तेरे दर पे मांगते रहते हैं और तू उन की इच्छाएं पूरी करता रहता है. हे भाई प्रभु का दर्शन हर किसम की सफलता प्रदान करने वाला है और जितना तुम उस के दर्शन करते हो उतने ही तुम प्रभु के गुण गाते हो.  हे नानक, जिस तरह हर कंण अंत में परम्तामा में वलीन हो जाता है उसी तरह प्रभु गुण गायन से मन की मणी प्रभु की मणी में वलीन हो जाती है.

Shabad Interpretation in English:

O my mind, meditate on the Almighty, the Lord of the World. The Lord is like Jewels and the Diamonds. O Lord, please, please, be merciful to me. Your Glorious Virtues are inaccessible and unfathomable; How can my one poor tongue describe them? O my Beloved Lord, O my Beloved Lord.  Your description is unfathomable;  You only know yourself;  By meditating on the Lord, I have become delighted and enraptured. My Lord is my very dear friend; He is my Master and a companion. My mind, body and tongue are attuned to the Lord; The Almighty Waheguru is my Wealth and Property. She alone obtains her Husband Lord, who is so pre-destined. Through the Guru’s Teachings, she sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord Waheguru.  I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Lord.  Servant Nanak, meditating on the Lord, has become delighted and enraptured.

हे मेरे मन, इस सृष्टि के पालनहार प्रभु का सिमरन कर. परमात्मा का सिमरन तो रतन जवाहर जैसा आभूषण है. गुरु की शरण मे और साध-जानो की सांगत द्वारा इस आभूषण को बना. प्रभु तो हर समय दयावान है. हे मेरे सुंदर लाल प्रभु, तेरे गुणों का कोई अंत नहीं, मेरी समझ के बहार है. मेरी एक जीह्वा तेरी बेअंत अवस्था का कैसे वर्णन कर सकती है. हे प्रभु जी, तेरा वर्णन करना असंभव है. तूं आप ही अपने बारे जनता है. मैं तो हरि-जप कर के ही आनन्दित और भावविभोर हो गया हूँ. हे भाई, प्रभु जी हमारे प्रिय मित्र हैं. वोह हमारे स्वामी भी हैं और साथी भी. जिस पर प्रभु की किरपा होती है वोह सुहागन गुरु शिक्षा द्वारा प्रभु गुण गायन करती है और आनंदित होतीं है. दास नानक हरि-जप कर कर के आनन्दित और भावविभोर हो जाता है.

Shabad Interpretation in English: 

The clouds have rained down all over the world. My Beloved Lord Waheguru has become merciful to me; I am blessed with ecstasy, bliss and peace. My sorrows are erased, and all my thirsts are quenched, meditating on the Supreme Lord Waheguru. In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, death and birth come to an end, and the mortal does not wander anywhere, ever again. My mind and body are imbued with the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord; I am lovingly attuned to His Lotus Feet. God has made Nanak His Own; slave Nanak seeks His Sanctuary.Shabad Viyakheya in Punjabi:

हे भाई, घने मेघ सम्पूरण जगत पे बरस रहे हैं. मेरे प्रीतम प्रभु ने किरपा दृष्टी द्वारा आनंद

मंगल सुख प्रदान कीया है. परमात्मा के मनन से सभी दुखों का विनाश और हर किसम की

तृष्णा समाप्त हो जाती है. साध-जानो की सांगत से जनम मरण के च्च्क्र से मुक्ती प्राप्त हो

जाती है और मानुष का हर किसम का भटकना समाप्त हो जाता है. जिस मानुष ने अपना मन

और तन प्रभु को अर्पण कर दीया और अपना चित प्रभु चरणों में  अर्पण कर दीआ है, परमात्मा

उसे अंगीकार कर लेता है. दास नानक ने प्रभु की शरण अपना ली है.

Shabad Interpretation in English:

Now my mind is absorbed in my Master Waheguru. My perfect Guru has blessed me with a life that has made me mingle with my Lord Waheguru, like a fish with the water. I have cast out carnal desires, anger, greed, egotism and envy and I have offered all these vices away. The Guru has implanted the medicine of the Lord’s Mantra within me, and I have met with the All-knowing Lord Waheguru. My soul belongs to You, O my Lord and Master. The Guru has got me rid of egotism, and thus I got you Almighty. Says Nanak, I have found the Lord with intuitive ease, within my own self. Devotion and worship of the Lord Waheguru is an endless treasure.

है भाई, अब तो मेरा मन परमात्मा में मग्न हो गया है. मेरे निपुण गुरु ने मुझे प्रभु से ऐसा मिलाप कराया है जैसे मीन का जल से होता है. काम, क्रोध, लोभ, अहंभाव और द्वेष को मैने तेयाग दीआ है. गुरु ने मेरे अंदर हरी मंतर की दावा डाल दी है जिस से मेरा पूरण प्रभु से मिलन हो गया है. प्रभु तू मेरी आत्मा का मालिक है, गुरु ने मेरे अहंभाव को मिटा कर परमातम मुझे दे दीया है. नानक कहता है, मैं ने भगती द्वारा हरी-धन को सहेज भाव से ही अपने अन्दर पा लीआ है.
