Shabad Interpretation in English:

I forever surrender to those who listen and hear, and who understand and believe in the Naam. For those, who are not blessed by Almighty with Naam, there is no other place of rest. O Lord, you make us understand, and you yourself show us the way, and unite us in your union. O Lord Almighty, I pray for your Naam; Your Naam would go with me till the end. Without the Naam, all are under the grip of fear of death. Our farming and trading should be with the support of Almighty’s Naam. Our sins and virtues all act as seeds for our future. Carnal desires and anger are the cause for wounds of the soul. The evil-minded ones forget the Naam, and then depart. True are the Teachings of the True Guru. The body and mind are cooled and soothed, by the touchstone of truth. This is the true mark of wisdom: that one remains detached, like the water-lily, or the lotus upon the water. Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, one becomes sweet, like the juice of the sugar cane. By the Hukam of the Lord’s Command, we live in the castle of the body with ten gates. The five passions dwell there, together with the Divine Light of the Infinite. The Lord Himself is the merchandise, and He Himself is the trader. O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, we are adorned and rejuvenated.

Shabad Interpretation in Hindi:मैं उस मानुष पर बलिहार जाता हूँ जो परमात्मा का नाम सिमरन करता है और उस को समझने की कोशिश करता है. जिन पर परमात्मा की किरपा दरिषटी नहीं होती उन के लिये कोई आसरा नहीं रहता है. परमात्मा तूं आप ही हमें राह दिखता है और अपनी शरण में लेता है. हे परमात्मा मेरी प्रार्थना है कि मुझे तेरा नाम सिमरन मिले, तेरा नाम ही अंत तक मेरे साथ सहाई रह सकता है बाकी सभ तो नाशवंत हैं. हमारे जीवीका के साधन – खेती और वयापार, नाम सिमरन के आसरे ही होने चाहेए. हमारे आज के पाप और पुन्य भविष के लिये बीज का काम करते हैं. कामातुर इछाये और क्रोध आत्मा को चोट पहुंचाती है. जिन के मन मे खोट होते है वोह नाम सिमरन के बिना ही इस संसार से चले जाते हैं. सच्चे गुरु की सिख्षा भी सच्ची ही होती है और तन मन को शीतलता प्रदान करती है. जिस तरह कमल जल में रह कर भी खिल्ला रहता है, परमात्मा के नाम में लपत मानुष ईख समान मीठी अवस्था प्राप्त करता है. परमात्मा के हुकम द्वारा ही हम इस दस दवारी भौतिक शरीर मे निवास करते हैं. हमारी पांच वासनाये भी उस परमात्मा की जोत के साथ इस शरीर में निवास करती हैं. परमात्मा आप ही वाणियज वस्तु और आप ही व्यापारी है. हे नानक परमात्मा के नाम सिमरन से ही हमारे सभी कारज सवरते हैं.
