Gold, jewels, giant pearls and rubies, I have no need for them.
Imperial power, fortunes, royal command, mansions and comforts, I have no desire for these.
The refuge at Lord’s Feet, and dedication to the saints, these bring me peace and pleasure.
Nanak says, the fire of my desires is extinguished, on obtaining the love of the beloved.
Shabad Interpretation in Punjabi:

Most spiritual and healing Gurban kirtan by these Bibi jis.
Their voice control in complete swar and taal is absolutely fantastic.
We need Kirtan of this level at places like darbar Sahib & I do hope this will happen in my life time.
My congratulations to Gurmat Gian Group.
(Have passed on to youngest brother Dya Singh of Australia who is taking Kirtan to wider non-Sikh audiences worldwide.)
This is exactly the way Ilahi Gurbani should be sung..in perfect taal, sur and with full control…and i see no possible reason why these Bibis should not be alowed to perform as Hazooree Ragis at Harmandar sahib Amritsar and other Takhat sahibaans. The Harmandar sahib deserves such talent especially now that Live Kirtan from it is broadcast worldwide and listened to daily by millions all over the world. I congratulate these soul-brides of our Beloved Guru and wish them all success in further improvements to their Kirtan. Guru ji Kirpa karan Chardeekalla Always.

The renditions of these lovely ladies paint an inner beauty and piety which sadly seems to be missing in our current crop of (male) ragis. Why ‘lady jathas’ of this calibre are not allowed to do kirtan at Darbar Sahib, even today, is a mystery to me!
i am simply amazed how beautiful kirtan this jatha does,
and even further i am amazed by the two young members of the group,
In times when we have so much “such” and “such” things going on around us. and we see Sikh girls going for out of tradition things… These two have opted for such a pure path… Well many might say credits go to their parents in whose provided environment these two grew…
and were thus inspired,
but certainly these two do deserve applaud for it takes a lot to do kirtan when there are so many around you out there to discourage you and try to make you shun your invaluable traditions and history.
These two “kaurs” are doing a great sewa (service) . May Waheguru Bless them and their mentor and teacher Gurpreet Kaur Ji…
Gur Sikhi and Gurbani is unequivocally second to none. Shabad Kirtan, weather it is recited by male or female makes no difference as long as it is recited within the shabad gurbani protocol is what matters. I am very saddened of the fact that our great Guru Jis and the Gurbani teaches us equality and prohibits us from the caste system and any indifferences between male and female. I fail to understand why our respected Bibiyan are not allowed to recite Gurbani at the most renowned holiest place in Punjab and in the world. I pray that the authorities realise soon and practice what they themselves preach and allow the respected Bibyan to recite Shabad Kirtan at all Sikh reliious institutions. I congratulate and salute these Bibiyan and wish them chardi kalaa and may Wahe Guru Ji bless them and grant them the most needed wish to recite at Siri Harmandar Sahib Ji. Nanak Naam Chardi Kalaa Taray Panay Sarbat Da Bhalaa. (London)

I discovered the site many months ago and appreciate the work these baeutiuful young ladies are doing. I am little disturbed that you rate the Darbar ragis so low. Most of the raagis are under instruction to keep everthing simple it is not the case they can not , they are catering to audiance not them selves only.
I am not willing to go on the defensive about Darbar Sahib Kirtan, nor the traditions , I also have 4 daughters who perform kirtan to very high standard. Jathedar Sahib personally listens to My kids when ever He is in UK and they always discuss ‘why not Ladies’ question.
Tradition is ther for a reason we can dis cuss it and , we can try and prersuade the powers be to change the tradition. You have gine a long way to prove that GIRLS are as good as any one else and one day it will happen.

it is true that Hazoori Raagis do wonderful Kirtan and Kirtan shouldn’t and can’t be compared,
kirtan should/must be done keeping the Gurbani first and raags should be secondary, Raags aren’t complimentary but are a supplementary tool.
it is well known that Hazzori raagis do/ and can sing very well in raags,
those comparing GurmatGianGroup with any other jatha are doing a gross mistake for kirtan is forever beautiful,

Raag Naad Sabh Sach Hai Kimat Kahi Na Jaye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guru ka sikh believe that The Word of True Guru, is true, absolutely true as it came through the mouth of Our Beloved Gurus. The best way to sing Shabad is to do in its own Raag, according to its own musical notation as the heading of a particular Shabad suggests.
Guru Nanak Dev ji gave great importance to the singing Gurbani in “Musical Raags” because this is how Bani was sent to the Gurus. They just honest fully documented it, in the Raags, it was sent. The Holy scripture of 1343 pages out of 1430 are in music indicated in Title, that makes more than 90% of the bani written in Raags and how could we chose to ignore Guru’s Hukam in Shabad’s title.
If we ask Guru Arjan Dev ji Maharaj the purpose of life, then Guru ji says, “My life’s Purpose is to Listen to Waheguru’s Stories, Sing the Keertan, Listen to the RAAGS, “Vibrations of the Sound, by doing so now, Waheguru is totally pleased with me now; I have obtained the fruits of my desires.
According to Guru Ramdas ji,Guruji started performing Keertan, The tabla/pakhavaj was tuned to the string instrument, further more the instrument was tuned to Bilaval notes and Guruji written in His Bani, “Hey worldly people listen, I am singing the name of the magnificent Waheguru, “Har”, in the tune (melody) of Raag Bilaaval. I have also used beats (“naad”) to perform meditation in raag Bilaval. Guru ji further saying that I have followed the Hukam of the previous Gurus. Hearing the Guru’s Teachings, I obey them; this is the pre-ordained destiny written upon my forehead. What was said by the pervious Guru”
Raags are not allowed in Islam. Pir Dastgir, a orthodox Muslim got upset by singing of DIVINE MESSAGE IN MUSICAL RAAG in the lands of Islam. Some threw stones at Guruji to stop singing Divine Hymn in RAAG. The combined power of Divine Raag & Shabad SMOOTHENED his heart. Guru Nanak Dev Ji explained to Pir Dastgir the true function of Musical Raag. The Pir was greatly impressed by the Guru’s explanation in favor of sacred musical Raag based Divine words to establish a bond between the soul and the Creator.
But I do get upset when people in Gurudwara Sahib discriminate Raagi Sahiban for singing Keertan in Divine Raags.
It is sad really.
But according Sikh Rehat Maryaada from Sri Akaal Takhat, the definition of Keertan is,“The singing of Gurbani in Specified Raags is called Keertan.”

Dear Gurmeet Bahenji,
We here in Westchester county of New York, have a small family with about 20 members, brothers, sisters and kids – LOVE your tapes and have been distributing them to like minded people, who love classical shabad kirtans. Your endeavour is really highly appreciable. You are doing great job. Please let us know if you are visiting New York, so that we can arrange some kirtan programs for you.
With our kindest regards
