Shabad Interpretation in English: 

The angelic beings and  sages search for the Ambrosial Nectar; this Amrit is obtained from the Guru. This Amrit is obtained, when the Guru grants His Grace; He enshrines the True Lord within the mind. All living beings and creatures were created by You; only some come to see the Guru, and seek His blessing. Their greed, avarice and egotism are dispelled, and the True Guru seems sweet. Says Nanak, those with whom the Lord is pleased, obtain the Amrit, through the Guru.

जिस अमृत की तलाश में देवदूत और ऋषि जन रहते हैं उस को गुरु की शरण से प्राप्त कीआ जाता है। सचे प्रभु को मन मे धारण करने से गुरु किरपा दवारा अमृत की प्राप्ती होती है। सभी जीव जंतुओं की सिर्जना प्रभु तुम ने की है पर कुछ को ही गुरु की किरपा प्राप्त होती है और उन मे गुरु की किरपा दृष्टी से लोभ मोह इवं अहंगकर का नाश हो जाता है। नानक कहते हैं, उन जिनके साथ प्रभु की कृपा है, अमृत गुरु के माध्यम से प्राप्त होता है।

Shabad Interpretation in English:

O my fascinating Lord, I pray to You to come and stay into my heart.

I act in pride, and speak in pride. I am mistaken and wrong, but I am still Your hand maiden.

O my Beloved. I hear that You are near, but I cannot see You. I wander in suffering, deluded by doubt.

The Guru has become merciful to me; He has removed the veils from my vision.

Meeting with my Beloved, my mind blossoms forth in abundance.

If I were to forget my Lord and Master, even for an instant, it would be like millions of days, tens of thousands of years. When I joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, I met my Lord.

Shabad Interpretation in Hindi:

मेरे मनभावन प्रभु मेरे हिर्दय को अपना निवास बना लो यह मेरी आप के समक्ष प्रार्थना है.
मेरे कर्म अहंकार से भरपूर हैं और मेरी वाणी दूषित है. मेरी भूल चूक की उपेक्षा करो क्यों कि आखिर मैं तेरी प्रिय दासी जो हूँ.
मैंने सुना है तुम सभों के बहुत करीब हो पर मुझे दिख क्यों नहीं पा रहे, मैं इसी भरम से दुखी हूँ.
गुरु किरपा वंश मेरी अज्ञानता का पर्दा उतर गया है और प्रीतम प्रभु के दर्शन से मन आनंदित हो उठा है.
इक क्षण मात्र भी स्वामी प्रभु को विसारना अनंत दिवस के विछोड़े सामान है.
नानक जी कहते हैं, साध जनों की संगत प्राप्त होने से मुझे प्रभु संग मिलन हुआ है.

English Interpretation of this Shabad


O Almighty, which all glorious virtues should I sing ! You are my Lord and Master, the treasure of excellence.I am not capable of expressing Your glorious praises. You are my Lord and Master, lofty and benevolent.


The Name of the Lord is my only support. O my Lord, keep me the way it pleases you. I have no one else other than you.


You alone are my strength, and my court, O my Lord and Master; unto You alone I pray. There is no other place where I can offer my prayers; I can tell my pains and pleasures only to You.


Water is locked up in the earth, and fire is locked up in wood. The sheep and the lions are kept in one place; O mortal, meditate on the Lord, and your doubts and fears shall be removed.


Behold the glorious greatness of the Lord who is capable of blessing honour to the dishonoured.  As dust rises from underfoot, O Nanak, so does the Lord make people fall at the feet of the Holy.


Punjabi Interpretation of this Shabad


ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਕਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਕਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਖੂਬੀਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਾਂ, ਬੋਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਾਂ? ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਖਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇਰੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਮੈਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਬੁਲੰਦ ਕੀਰਤੀਮਾਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈਂ।


ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੇਰੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।


ਮੇਰੀ ਸੱਤਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਚਹਿਰੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਕੇਵਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ. ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਾਂ। ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਗਮੀ ਮੈਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।


ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਲ ਇਕੇ ਥਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਲੱਕੜ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਬੱਕਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਇਕੇ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਅਤੇ ਡਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਕਰ ਦੇ।


ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ ਵੱਲ ਤੱਕੋ, ਹੇ ਸਾਧੂਓ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੇਪੱਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਤੇ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਗੀਂ ਪਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Lord of the World, O Cherisher of the Universe, O my Compassionate Beloved. Thou are the master of my life, friend of the destitute, reliever of pain and sufferings of the poor. O my Omnipotent, Unfathomable and Omnipresent Lord, show thou mercy unto me. Nanak says, ferry me across the terrible, dark pit of this world to the other side.

ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਤੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਪੋਸਣਹਾਰ, ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਨਿਖਸਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਈ! ਹੇ ਗ਼ਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ! ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਸ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਖੂਹ ਰੂਪੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਨੂ ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਲੈ.

हे सृष्टि के मालिक एवं पालनहार, हे दया के स्रोत ! हे सुन्दर प्रभु ! हे मेरे प्राणो के मालिक ! हे अनाथों के सहाई ! हे गरीबों के दुःख हरण करने वाले ! हे समूह शक्तिमान ! हे सरब वयापक ! मेरे पे मेहर कर ! नानक बिनती करते हैं , हे प्रभु, इस भयानक अंध कूप रुपी संसार से मेरा उद्धार कर दे।
